Beyond .50 BMG — The Jumbo .950 JDJ
Are you bored with your “whimpy” .50 BMG? Looking for something with a little more punch? Well J.D. Jones and his team at SSK Iindustries have created a truly big boomer — the .950 JDJ. As its name implies, rifles chambered for the cartridge have a bore diameter of 0.950″ (24.13 mm). This would normally make such rifles “destructive devices” under the 1934 National Firearms Act (NFA). However, SSK obtained a “Sporting Use” exemption allowing the rifles to be sold without special restrictions as destructive devices. CLICK HERE to watch .950 JDJ being fired.
.950 JDJ Specifications
Rifle Cost: $8000.00
Ammunition Cost: $40.00 per round
Projectile Weight: 3,600 grains (more than half a pound)
Rifle Weight: Between 80 and 120 pounds
Muzzle Energy: 38,685 ft/lbs (52,450 Joules)
Momentum: 154.1 Newton-seconds
As crafted by SSK Industries, .950 JDJ rifles use McMillan stocks and very large-diameter Krieger barrels fitted with a massive 18.2-lb muzzle brakes. The ammo produced by SSK features solid 3,600 grain bullets and CNC-machined cartridge brass. It is also possible (through a lot of work), to use a 20mm cannon casing shortened and necked-down.The primer pocket is swaged out to accept a .50 cal machine gun primer. That 3,600 grain bullet is just massive — it weighs more than half a pound. The cartridge propels its 3,600 grain bullet at approximately 2,200 fps. This yields a muzzle energy of 38,685 ft-lbs and a momentum of 154.1 Newton-seconds. The energy on target (knock-down power) is comparable to WWI-era tank rounds.

Crap, I already sent my Christmas list to Santa…..
Where are the wheels, ammunition limber and the tow tractor?
Did you read the comment section? Broken Ribs, bruised lungs…… blacked out. Nice, sign me up. Adam
And it will be used for ?
I can see why it takes two horseshoes to hang it on the wall…
Punching paper
Remove the brake, mount it on your shoulder and hit a target offhand. I will THEN be impressed. Until then, not so much.
Perhaps Lapua will start producing brass and a shorter, lower-powered (under 30,000 ft. lbs., which should be plenty of power to punch holes in paper at any reasonable range) “match” round. It could be named the 24 BR Lapua. Since shooters use the .30 BR to punch bigger holes in paper than a 6 BR, the 24 BR Lapua, in this context, makes perfect sense. Also, between the intimidation factor of such a large, heavy benchgun and the muzzle blast from the brake it would have a psychological atvantage over other shooters on the line.
Finally! Something I can use to get rid of those pesky tanks that have bee rutting up my yard, although I might need an ackley version to reach out and smack the cautious ones I couldn’t get with a RPG.
One more version of the old saying, “Mine is bigger than yours”.
Yeah. Just great. How long now before the Chinese, Iranians, North Koreans and Russians acquire it, reverse engineer it and then how long before the thing shows up in Iraq and Afghanistan to blow the heads off of American kids riding in HUMVs? If you think this has not already happened with other types of anti-materiel rifles, you are wrong. Meanwhile these good old assholes are sitting around the neighborhood range busting caps and getting their jollies. Its pretty disgusting.
Nice, but for $8000 I can get a six barrel 7.62 mini gun that puts out 4000 rounds a minute.

Need one of these up here in Creede to put all the (special) Texans in their place when they start beating on their chest. As for the price… What’s a Harley cost and how practical are they? And everyone has a Harley. Just saying…
It would be nice if it had an automatic morphine dispenser in the stock when it was fired.
Dronner 66 is a 30mm rifle, there are also several 25mm rifles out there and Anzio ironworks makes some nice 20mm.
Sorry, that is a M-499 30mm rifle
Amazing gun to shoot once and no more than once.
