I had a budget and did lots of research on scopes up to £600. One of the front runners was the 4200 elite range but having looked at them they were very long with only a 40mm lens and 25mm tube which put me off.
By chance I came across the new Bushnell 4200 tactical 6-24×50 but it was at that time only just released in the USA. Without even holding one I ordered two, and with the exchange rate they came to my door for a bargain price.
I also have Opti-mate 20×42 tactical scope and a Leupold M8 6×42 so to test I used both and compared the Bushnell. At 6x the bushnell is at least as bright as the Leupold. At 24x the bushnell is brighter and sharper that the Opti-mate.
The Bushnell tactical appears very well made. The turrets are positive and accurate and the magnification ring is smooth from 6x to 24x. One of the scopes is on my .223 Steyr scout and is faultless in all conditions.
The other is on my target .22 rimfire rifle again faultless but would not focus at 20yards on full 24x mag. One Smithscope focus adaptor later and this is sorted. Overall a very good scope and well worth the RRP, but if you can also get a bargain like me all the better.
