LRCampos, the microstamping technology in discussion in the US does not involve stamping the cases. It involves having the firing pin stamp a serial number on the primer, so that the spent casing can be linked to a firearm.

This will only work if the criminal hasn't bothered to polish the firing pin tip, or used a gun that was actually bought under his name. Right.

Without a mile-long discussion, all you yanks need to know is that a gun registry is just one step closer to not having any!
Fight the b@stards every step of the way!

LR --

Thanks for your report from Brazil. Regarding Microstamping--the question is not whether you can affix a stamp to a brass case, but whether the system is reliable as a crime-control measure. Studies at U. Calif. Davis and by other scientists have challenged the reliability of the process. Furthermore, here in the U.S., micro-stamping advocates want it applied to firing pins and other internal components.

There is certainly no argument that microstamping would increase the cost of ammo and pistols.

Dont believe that microstamp on cartridge case is not a viable technology: in Brazil, since 2006, all ammo sold has microstamp on the case (serial numbers and code bar).

And, of course, it does nothing to decrease crime rate...
