Wow, a Toyota! My 2008 Chevy 4x4 2500hd Crew Cab Duramax with 33” tires and 4 inch lift gets 17 MPG doing the speed limit from South Carolina to Michigan with 3 adults, and a 140lb dog a fully loaded bed with a topper. I bet that Toyota would not get that good of millage will all of the weight I had in my truck.

The last time I did the same trip I pulled a 16.5’ aluminum Lund boat with a fully loaded bed 2 adults and the dog and got 14 MPG

That is what I call American Vehicle. With a truck you can fill the bed and seat up to 6 people.

BUY AMERICAN!!!!

Excuse me while I try to stop laughing. Its a good message, but since when has 29mpg been considered good gas mileage? Here in the 21st century, my 4 year old VW Passat diesel gets about 54mpg at 75mph! It has loads of space, is very comfortable and very reliable. True it doesn't have the ground clearance of a 4WD but there are other options. Heck, my 13 year old Saab is still going strong and gets nearly 35mpg on the motorway at the same speed.

Don't be ashamed describe what the Venza really is, and what most people drive SUVs as: tall station wagons. It really is the replacement for the Camry wagon. For whatever reason, wagons that look like the cars they are based on have fallen out of vogue, and now have to look like pseudo-SUVs, hence crossovers. My taste would be for a Jetta TDI wagon, but the Venza also makes a decent vehicle for these purposes, and will probably be dead nuts reliable.

Spare a thought for us shooters in New-Zealand where petrol cost $ 6.80 to $ 7.00 a gallon and diesel $ 4.90 + 3 cents per km. tax. Most competitions are three and a half to seven hours drive and that is just in one Island. Rick. R.
