I just bought the 597, then a friend sent ‘the news. think i am done with Remington. don’t know if I can say this but they can go #### themselves.!!! THANKS REMINGTON!!!

Lets see, I spend about 4 and a half for the gun, you make me run around to package and mail it back, wait for a substantial period, then send me 250 good only towards the purchase of another Remington gun at full retail. What did I do to you? You jack-handles think this offensive offer is buying you anything other than contempt? I was a loyal customer who trusted you. I have now done a clean sweep on my safes, removed and liquidated all Remington products I owned. I sponsor Wounded Warrior Project hunts on my properties, and have issued a warning to all prospective participants that NO REMINGTON PRODUCTS, FIREARMS OR AMMUNITION, may be used on my properties at any time. Probably no big deal for you, but word travels fast, and memories of a flogging last a long, long time. Kiss goodbye the legions of loyal consumers that helped make you one of America’s oldest and most respected firearm manufactures in the country. This offer is disrespectful to the extreme, and indicative of how little you value the loyalty of your consumers. May you die a slow, painful demise. Shame on you, Remington!

We are not dealing with our father’s Remington Arms. We are dealing with Cerebrus, a financial conglomerate who bought Remington,Chrysler and other companies.

Be careful as they have bought some other gun mfrs. as well.

I’ve had the same problem as eveyone else. Remington has handled this very badly. This is a product that never should have been sold to the public. I called them and they gave me the same run around.

But, I did get a call from them, which I have not returned, after I went to see the Consumer Product Safety Division of my states Attorney General office and filed a formal complaint. Wow, were they interested in how Remington was handling this. They have promised to get involved — I told them I didn’t care about the $, but I wanted Remington to act as a responsible corporate citizen. Remington has ignored the individual consumer but looks like this is the way to get their attention.

Everyone should try this approach-lets see how Remington responds than.

I recently learned of this recall by accident while surfing the web. I purchased this gun from Bass Pro Outdoor World for $399.99 on 01-27-2007. I also bought a BSA Sweet 17 Scope at the same time for this rifle and the only time it has ever been fired is when Outdoor World sighted it in at the time of purchase. When I called Outdoor World they informed me that by federal law they couldn’t accept it back and I would have to deal directly with the manafacturer on this issue. I was disappointed when I called Remington as they informed me they would only send me a coupon for $200.00 good only towards the purchase of another Remington product. They also informed me I could send the HMR 17 back to the factory and they would re-rifle it to a .22 cal Win Mag for free (such sports they are). They would also be willing to send me a pre paid shipping label, however I would have to supply the shipping box. I am very dissappointed with this outcome having to take such a great monetary loss on this product and will never purchase another Remington product. I am also a member of a local gun club which has a very large membership and will urge them to do the same. I intend to send the firearm back and have the conversation made and then I will sell it for whatever I can get for it. Remington has forever lost this customer and hopefully many many more if I can help it. I should think Bass Pro Outdoor World should also do the same and ban the sale of any Remington firearms or any other Remington products to their loyal and future customers. Shame on Remington for treating their consumers in this fashion.

How you can relate Second Amendment Rights to the Remington Problem of
producing an inadequate firearm. They are apple and oranges. One deals
with our freedoms that we enjoy and the other deals with being taken by an
unscrupulous manufacturer. Remington made a mistake and then offered to
correct it by keeping half the price. A very sweet deal. A responsible
manufacturer would have recalled the item and fixed it, either with a new
barrel or a different weapon. Instead, they put the “arm” on their
customers to accept the loss. I resent their actions and will repeat that
there should have been a recall instituted by the Consumer Protection
Agency. Incidently, it seems that you have never had a vehicle that had a
recall. If you ever are notified by the Auto manufacturer that they have a
recall on your vehicle, just toss it into the wastebasket because it doesn’t
mean anything and is certainly not life threatening.

Remington will learn from this just like S&W did after supporting the Clinton Gun Policy.

Some of you folks really crack me up. We scream at the top of our lungs about our second ammendment rights but when something goes wrong we cry for Uncle Sam to help us get our money back and bring suit against the foul arms manufacturer!!!

Your Remington is broke? Send it back, get your $200.00 and go buy something else that you will shoot until the bore needs cleaning, the shine wears off, or you just don’t want it anymore.

But PLEASE, don’t cry LAWYER. Besides it is always fun until something goes terribly wrong!

I just spoke to a customer service rep at Remington and they are currently swapping out the barrels and converting this rifle to 22WMR at no cost

i cant replace it for 200 dollars i yall decide to swap it for the 22 mag in the 597 or orther simiauto model ill consider that.

I bought a Remington 597 / .17 HMR in Jan, 2005. I have only shot about 2 boxes of shells thru it. That’s probably a good thing. I just found out about this problem today (Dec.29, 2009)and am not happy with Remington. They should give back the full purchase price or the MSRP, whichever is less, to be fair to their customers. A coupon in this amount toward another Remington product would be acceptable to me. Anything less is inconsiderate, unacceptable, and arrogant of Remington.
