How big is the plate? ie what it doesnt give a good indication of is the MOA capability, ie to be competitive against custom guns you need to have a 1/4inch MOA gun, to make a purchasing decision. For instance here in NZ a Savage Palma is 3kNZD v 4KNZD for a custom gun like a Barnard action with Truflight barrel….

Hey Daniel,

A good load for either the Savage Palma, or Savage F-T/R rifle will probably consist of pushing a 155 (or 155.5) grain bullet out there around 2950-3000 fps. Especially for someone with less reloading experience, the “light” bullets are very easy to get a good load to shoot well, especially the Berger 155.5’s. While there are a number of good shooters getting “heavy” loads working well, the light ones give up almost nothing in competition, and are easier to drive.

Components I’ve used in these rifles to win matches:
Winchester or Lapua cases
Varget Powder
Fed. 210M primers
Berger 155.5 bullets

How much powder you use to get your loads working will depend on a number of variables unique to your particular rifle (chamber dimensions, bore diameter, etc.). If you started at 46 grains of Varget with a 155 grain bullet of some flavor, and worked your way up carefully, checking pressure indicators at each point, you should be able to find an extremely accurate load.

I purchased a Savage Arms 12 Palma today but I don’t know which scope is best for this gun. Can you please advise what brand and model, specifications of the scope used in the video attached to the 12 Palma.

I know first hand what a savage rifle is capable of; I own one of these fine rifles and they are unreal as to what they will do. They are so accurate they would make anyone who has ever shot a rifle look like professional shooter !!!
