I`ve seen an uncounted number of die sets over the years that have never been cleaned as described. The preservative coating tends to turn into a sticky mess that makes normal die adjustments rather difficult. Many used die sets are packed with years of accumulated lube and brass shavings. Any die set that is acquired as "used" need to be taken apart as descibed and be cleaned per the directions that are included in the box. If the die instruction sheet is not included with a used set, the manufactuer will send them to the new user simply by calling and asking for same. RCBS and Redding are particularly good about this. Either's standard instructions will be adequate for those older sets that still change hands. (Wells/Pacific/C&H/Dunbar/Herter's/etc.)
