I shot about fifty rounds through my Steyr SSG 08. I was skeptical before I bagan shooting because the range Safety guy said I should send them back because he had on five different occasions had people blow the primers out of their Superperformance Ammo.
I began shooting slowly…after each shot, I checked the casings and primer area carefully to verify there were no signs of overpressure. After several rounds of verifying there was not going to be any safety issues, myself and the Range Safety agreed that my weapon absolutely loved the 178 grain .308 superperformance match ammo. They were very accurate and they seemed to produce less recoil than I recall from shooting Federal 168 grain Gold Metal Match ammo.
I will say that prior to shooting they had been in my car overnight and the temperature had been between 35-40 degress overnight…so they were definitely cold soaked. I don’t know if they would have performed any different in warm weather. As far as what I experienced, they performed flawlessly and I would recommend them to anyone looking for excellent match grade ammunition.
I know they will be my choice for the future.

I purchased my first box of 308 hornady shells and with it shot 5 deer and 1 moose. I then bought a box of Superperformance and fired 3 shells and the casings expanded in chamber and were very hard to eject. I use a lever browning rifle. I shot other ammo after my problems and they worked fine. I took an empty casing to my gun shop and they tried it in a new rifle and it stuck in the chamber.

I know that writers of ad copy don’t work in the world of science, and that’s OK, but the least they could do is to ensure that they don’t say anything that is flat-out wrong.

I don’t doubt the claim that the engineers have managed to get these powders to burn almost completely. However to the extent that they succeed in getting a more-complete burn, this will actually (slightly) increase recoil, and (slightly) increase exit pressure.

Hornady has stuck with similar proprietary powder in its .204 Ruger ammo, and achieving the velocity of Hornady factory ammo with hand loads is difficult, but alas, velocity is not everything. As any hand loader or precision shooter knows, speed does not equal accuracy.

It is unfortunate they have not embraced the marketing of such powders for hand-loading.
