Maybe I got the “ugly ducklin” of the lot. I hope so, because my information was that some of the custom bullet makers were going to this press, and that said a lot to me.

I will give Lee a call — a replacement would be great. This press (when working correctly) would be a great home for my Warner die. We shall see.

I have used a Lee Classic Cast press for three years and it has performed superbly. The problem with the odd spent primer ejecting out of the primer feed arm slot was solved by press fitting a piece of hard material, in my case I used a custom shaped piece of perspex about 2 mm thick. There has never been a problem since.

Thanks for your comments. Sorry you were somewhat disappointed. The Classic Press we used didn’t have the ram mis-fit you observed. Also the primers come out fine… but then I use small rifle primers 95% of the time. The press we used also included the tube, but if is doesn’t you can easily get some tubing from a hardware store. This isn’t a bad idea as you can use a longer piece of tubing, pinch off the end, and use it to collect the spent primers. Just dump it out when it gets about half full.

I have a Lee Classic Cast Press. It is very solid, and the top of the die receiver threads is void of paint and is level. The insert can be removed for the large Warner size die.

On the down side, my Mid-Way press did not come with the plastic primer catch tube. Lee mailed me one at no cost. Next, the ram is made in two parts. Mine has slop between the two halves which you can feel and hear. As to the spent primers being dumped in the tube, no all of them. They will also eject out the left side of the ram, and you have to develop a technique where you let your finger slide along the ram to deflect the spent primers back inside.

Bottom line, you get what you pay for. I now use the Lee press for a universal primer decap die — about what $70 something dollars gets you.
