If you read the last section of the story, you can zero with three shots with NO TOOL, and any scope at all. You don’t need a mil/mil set-up. Just take one shot, return rifle so center of cross-hair is in middle of target, and then dial center of cross-hair to the first shot impact point.

I’d hate to try to do this on a range with other people live firing, having to arrange for a cease fire and walk out to measure.
