Aside from all that, my $.02 is that the defacto smartphone market is iPhone and Android. And I say that as a Windows Phone 7 developer.

Editor: Jon, I said as much to the Lapua folks at SHOT Show. But I was told that this App should run on more smartphones than iPhone and Android combined. Just repeating what I was told...

That release makes no sense at all.

What is Android? Android is a software stack for mobile devices that includes an operating system, middleware and key applications. The Android SDK provides the tools and APIs necessary to begin developing applications on the Android platform using the Java programming language.

If it's not Iphone or Android then it's blackberry only for the most part.

EDITOR: There's more to it than you think. The Ballistics App requires Jave J2ME which is NOT currently compatible with the Android SDK, which does NOT run J2ME natively.

Please read the details below. While Android development IS done with Java tools, an Android device doesn't run as a Java Device per se. All we can do is repeat what Lapua says: "Lapua Ballistics can be installed to all mobile phones supporting basic Java (Java MIDP 2.0 support needed). Apple iPhone and Android platforms do not support Java ME."

Java J2ME is NOT the same as the java code on which Android OS is based. There are some micro-emulators, but at this time, they is not widely deployed and we can't vouch for their performance

Android is NOT Java--
Oracle's Larry Ellison has explained that the Android OS is NOT Java: "Here again, some confusion could come from Larry’s keynote address. Some might believe that Android is Java-based and that it runs Java. However, Android is NOT Java-based; it is Linux-based. <strong>Google Android SDK converts Java bytecode to Android more optimized Dalvik VM bytecode. Thus the developer codes with Java, but the device does not run Java</strong> (kind of similar development experience to GWT, which cross-compiles Java code to JavaScript/AJAX). While it is possible to have Java VM for an Android phone, an application built with Android SDK does not run on Java when executing on the device.

Lapua App is NOT just for Blackberry
The App is definitely NOT limited to Blackberry. I have personally used the App running on a LG smartphone, an Ericsson smartphone, a Nokia smartphone, and a Blackberry. As to the compatibility to your particular phone, so long as its not an iPhone, Google phone, or Android phone, there is a good chance it might work.

Here is one converter that supposedly allows an Android smartphone to run J2ME Java natively: http://www.getjar.com/mobile/26312/j2me---java-runner-for-android-os-all/
