I have an older NXS 8-32x with the CH1 reticle. I love that scope on my 1K BR rig, but would likely trade it up for a different reticle if I was using it in the field or doing tactical work. I wouldn't trade it because the cross hair is too thin, but because a plain cross hair gives no actual value to a miss, or a hold-off. I like MOA reticles with MOA knobs, so I'd probably go with the NP-R1 if it wasn't on a BR rig. For now, my NXS with the CH1 isn't going anywhere... it's my favorite scope in the safe right now. (Although, the Sightron SIII 8-32 isn't too far behind it!)

I bet it's because people mostly get the BR scopes with the NP-2DD reticle. In doing my research, it seems many people find the crosshairs and/or dot too fine and that it tends to get lost. I shoot F-class and have two BRs with the NP-2DD, and it seems many others with BR scopes that I have spoken to have chosen that reticle too.
