will this scale at start a read less than 1.0 G like .5 our does it have to start like most at 1.0. thanks Ralph

Use mine all winter long, no static problems.

Simple enough to address with a few anti-static dryer sheets if its a problem.

I did some home work on this scale and It doesn’t function well around static
electricity, I would use this in my basement in the winter I do have problems with dry air.You tube shows how bad it reacts to static electricty.
If it wasn’t for that I would buy one in a heart beat

I picked up one of these Sartorius GD-503 units a year or so ago, after *much* frustration with an Acculav VIC-123. I had a series of discussions with the owner of balances.com bout the relative technologies employed between the two, and ultimately bought the GD-503 (and sold the VIC-123).

Besides the glass hutch, the draft ring setup on the GD-503 alone is far superior to the MX/VIC-123, and the unit is far less sensitive to stray EMF and/or air currents. The 503 made my 123 look like a bad joke in the reliability department – granted, for about 3x the cost, it should.

Right now I ‘double-weigh’ charges – dispense them on my Chargemaster 1500 about 0.1gn light and then get them within a kernel on the GD-503. For mid-range matches, its not really necessary. For long-range, though… the peace of mind is well worth it.

The A&D FX-120i is also a magnetic force restoration balance but does not have the precision of the more expensive GD503. It is available for $660.
