California: you should have every gun shop owner and all of it's customers be showing up at the Capitol or at the very least at their State legislative representative: both Senate and Representatives. Are there not any activists organizing a resistance to this?

It is NOT a dark day for the 2nd Amendment. It is a dark day for the lazy citizens who are letting this happen. Are there protests at the capitol over this? Doubtful. Are the governor's phone lines burning up? They should be.

This is flat out an unconstitutional power grab. They have no constitutional authority to subvert the federal law called the U.S. Constitution. If they succeeded from the Union of the 50 States then maybe. But as far as I know California is not one of the States that can lawfully succeed. I think only Texas has the legal right if I'm not mistaken.

It is indeed sad to see such obtuse and non-evidence based decisions being propegated by people, whose only qualification is a well polished ability to lie and waste public money.

As another Canadian employed in public safety, i can tell you that the gang-banging schitt rats get their guns from sources that 'bypass the registry', and there are tens, if not hundreds of thousands of hard working honest firearms owners that never bought into the Canadian boondoggle and are criminals for not registering their guns.

Evidence has shown over and over again that it accomplishes nothing, does nothing to take firearms away from criminals, and only makes criminals out of responsible firearms owners.

I mourne your loss of freedoms and the arrival of "Big Brother" in California.

Having "done" eight years in the People's Republic of CA, I can attest to there being some of the finest gun owning, conservative folks I have ever had a pleasure to meet. All of the power and influence is in SF and LA, and the rest of the state is essentially unrepresented. Unfortunately, the Heller decision did allow for registration as a legal tool of the states, so it is unlikely this one will be brought down on a constitutional challenge.

Good luck to shooters in the Golden State, they are going to need it.

Canada tried a gun registry. $2 billion wasted. The Canadian government is currently drafting legislation to shut down the registry and destroy all of the records which have been on many occasions leaked to thieves who used the data to break into homes that had large collections. New Zealand had one and also dismantled it. Funny to see a US state recycling other countries failed policies.
