These sorts of boondoggles have never lived up to their intuitive expectations in terms of mitigating crime. It is indeed ironic that in a culture and a society in which evidence based decisions have become the paradigm of decisions involving health and safety, that such a witch-burning approach is even ponderable.

The Canadian gun registry has been used as NOTHING more than a politcal lever. In Canada with its parliamentary system, the ruling party may not comprise a majority of members. Whenever the minority Conservatives have tried to implement innovative change, the majority of non conservative parties have ganged up to defeat such initiatives. Now that they are no longer a minority, we can finally move forward against parties that have achieved nothing more than obstruction on principle.

it’s not a matter of ego, it is a matter of idiot legislators from LA, and SF, and a state where the majority is effectively unrepresented.

If the Canadians rid themselves of such ridiculous legislation, they are showing that there actually is some common sense in their government and representation of the people’s wishes. I doubt that anyone will ever say that about the California state government.
