Cans are painted with shellac on the inside and are “one use and discard”. Salt is abrasive and to shake an abrasive over and over in an aluminum shaker would remove any coating applied if any coating is applied in the 1st place. My canteen is plastic. I work in the firearms industry and we are air sample monitored for aluminum intake so it is a serious issue for me. I dont make light of anything the govt deems a worthy cause to test and monitor for. Do what you want, I just put this out as a “food for thought” issue.

Editor: Benny, you raise some good points. Aluminum toxicity can also result in aching muscles, speech problems, anemia, digestive problems, lowered liver function, colic and impaired kidney function.

EDITOR: Umm, and how many Sodas, Juices, and Beers have you consumed from ALUMINUM Cans in your lifetime. And how many canteen and water containers are made out of aluminum? Think about it…. If this was really an issue, why would there be zillion-dollar soft drink and beer industries using mostly aluminum packaging. No, I do not encourage direct intake of powdered aluminum — but be realistic here.

You could come up with a similar toxicity list, I’m sure, for Salt. But last time I checked, a certain amount of salt was required for human survival.
