I have a .17HMR can I just git the bolt to fire the 17 center fire:?

Editor: The answer is No, not possible because of the design of the ignition system (rimfire) and the higher pressures involved. Forget that one.

Does anyone know if the action and barrel will fit in furniture of Savage 17 HMR? Looks exactly the same in the photos and I have a laminated thumbhole setup already I’d like to reuse if so.

just called Savage this morning 4/23/12. now they (sales) tolded they don’t when they will release the rifle.Accurate Shooters should contact Savage to see when Savage will offer the rifle and a for sure date,instead of keep putting the date off every time someone calls.(makes you wonder whats going on)

There are statements in the official releases that this will be suitable in the multiple existing Hornet rifles. That says to me that pressures are low enough for safety in a Ruger 77/22H for exampl. I’d sure like to know before rebarreling an existing Hornet. With increasing housing density there would seem to be a place for a quiet no richochet rifle, especially a light “walking varminter”. The 17’s provide unexpected performance in all their iterations.

Coming from Australia the 17 hornet looks like a good hard hitting flat shooting varmint caliber. At the time of writing savage seem to be the only gun maker with this caliber available, no thanks! Maybe in a browning, cz, or ruger. If that comes true sign me up now.

i have shot the 20 and 25 grain v max for a year.if you find a little wind at 3hundred yards the wind drift is over 12 inches. At a hundred yards you can be dead on. Remington has had a 17 center fire out for years, the bolistics is so close so whats new and all the hipe!

New stuff is always good news and that’s a pretty nice cartridge. However, I don’t see the big deal…it can’t match the .17 Fireball in a Remington Mdl. 700. Out of the box with factory ammo mine delivers 3/8″ groups at 100 yds. I popped two ground squirrels with three shots at 410 yds. measured with range-finder. It wasn’t the shooter, it was the cartridge and rifle!

I’m waiting on a resurgence of the 219 donaldson wasp based on 30-30 case. Wasp is right up there close to a 22-250. 219 donaldson wasp with a 40 degree shoulder and long neck should be an outstanding performer. Hope winchester chambers an 1885 for it soon.
