As bad a sign as it may be, we need to look at what Hornady is really trying to do. I agree that the whole zombie craze infecting shooting sports creates an extremely negative perception of gun owners and nothing will change that. However, the numbers of people that are getting involved with shooting sports are dwindling or holding steady at best. Hornady is reaching out to a younger crowd, most of whom do not already own 10, 15 or 20 firearms, and trying to get them to spend their money on Hornady Products. The debate will rage whether or not these individuals will make all gun owners look crazy, but the fact of the matter is more people participating in shooting sports means more people that are likely to fight for their 2nd Amendment rights. Which, this point in time, is more important than our image with the current administration fighting for re-election.

While the concerns related to shooting sports and gun ownership are not to be slighted I think we should ALL be MUCH more concerned with the social dynamics that produce such a mass desire for this fantasy. As we live in an increasingly individualized world where the need for HUMAN-to-HUMAN interaction becomes less critical and involved, it is easy to see others more as a bother or challenge than to accept them (and their differences in manner and opinion) as HUMAN BEINGS. Children, being raised as they have for several generations, to believe they are ALL utterly unique and exceptionally intelligent find their frustration an easy fit into the Zombie fantasy.

A world where I am surrounded by mindless, bloodsucking, idiots- any of whom would destroy me for their own gain if given half the chance (sound familiar?)--AND I have a full and guiltless authority to shoot and kill them at will while re-establishing a more primal/masculine lifestyle where the land's resources and space become mine to claim,,, Wait a minute,,,I might want in on that afterall!

BAD sign for Gun owners--
WORSE sign for all of us!

You all make this sound so bad. It is basically a 3-gun match with a theme. Simple. Yes, there is a Zombie costume contest, but the shooters are not shooting in their costumes, it is for fun.

[What] is wrong with people? What is this zombie phenomena??? It makes no sense, and actually angers me to see so many adults buying into it. I'll never understand it. (I'm referring to the adults here... see my comments below about new shooters)

With that said, Hornady is making some serious bank with this stuff!

I don't agree with the above comments, that the zombie era is creating a bad 'image' for gun owners. Anyone with half a brain will dismiss it. I've seen first hand, how the 'zombie theme' has taken a kid (addicted to FPS video games) out doors, so he can learn how to shoot in real life. All he wants to do is shoot zombie targets with zombie ammo... what's wrong with that?... NOTHING! If this brings more youth out to the firing lines, then I'm all about it. I'll buy all my nieces and nephews 1000's of rounds of zombieMax ammo if they want to go to the range with me. It's A LOT better than seeing them glued to a TV for 8 hrs straight.

$160K ... really? that's crazy!

I too have concerns. Can't we leave the zombie slaying to the video games? It gives me pause when I see shooting with lethal weapons associated with a silly fantasy game involving humanoid figures. What is the message from this? I don't know why shooting humanoid figures is more popular than shooting at simple steel targets. However, I felt that the amount of sponsorship here was newsworthy and shows that, like it or not, the Zombie thing is popular. I do like the idea of the AirSoft CQB house. Frankly, perhaps the whole event should be done as an AirSoft or Paintball match.

In my opinion this Zombie thing sends the wrong message about gun owners. Looks more like a anti-gun propaganda to me then anything else. Sorry hate to be negative but I just dont agree with this whole zombie hunt thing.
