Thank you, Ian, I am aware of that and understand the geometrical consequences. But, at the risk of seeming dense, what, if any, are the other benefits to the shooter? To paraphrase Mr. Uptagrafft on his website he says one of the best prone shooters in the world does not use a bloop tube. Thanks for your time.

bloop tubes increase you sight radius (distance between front and rear sight)

Dear Mr. Whitley,
Thanks for your article on bloop tubes. I have read about bloop tubes over the years and I would like to know what you consider to be the main advantage of using them? I am 66, shoot HP XTC, prone HP and small bore prone matches. I have very good corrected vision but there are times due to age and heat (in Kentucky)my visual acuity drops off over the course of a match. I prefer to shoot iron sights over the hunting type target scopes currently in favor. Thank you for your time.
