I always struggle with the thought of quick access when any lock is involved. If fine motor skills disappear in crisis situations I wouldn't want to depend on getting to a key, getting to the locker, getting it unlocked, ect. If someone is kicking in my door I think the most I would plan on is getting out of bed and arming myself with a gun that is readily available within feet of the bed. I could see this as a storage location when you need the gun locked up but question the quick access aspect of it.
