the idea of a rimfire, in 17 cal super mag, sure excites me,I currently shoot a 17 cal. centerfire,in model 7…sounds odd perhaps to many shotters,to have a jr. rifle.but it works out reather well when my grandsons want to shoot with me…and being disabled,not too much to carry down the tracks looking…several post have brought me back to some form of sence as I havent reloaded for a long time and liveing in a apt. for disableds.

Editor: I just returned from a squirrel hunt (varmint control on ranches) where at least 40% of the hits were made inside 150 yards with a 17 HMR. The four of us (on the hunt) all agreed that a “17 HMR on steroids” would be a very welcome addition to the list of factory rimfire options. We had hoped to get the new 17 WSM rimfire to test on this hunt but no rifle or ammo was available.

I always like to see a new cartridge.just don’t know why no one has developed a better 20cal rimfire than the 5mm remington magnum. with today’s technology, you would think that they be able to get 3000fps with 30 grain bullet.

Due to current availability and price of 17HMR ammo my Savage 93R17 remains keeper. For 200+ yards varmint hunting .223 is much better choice for the same reasons.
