Waterproof paper, use a Fisher space pen and only $8.50. They lay flat too and use stainless wire for the spiral binding so no rust.

I also like to keep a MEAD permabound composition book on each rifle and pistol I own. Each time I go to the range or hunting I put the date and the type ammo I shot as well as the lot # and bullet style and weight. It makes it alot easier to sell a weapon with a round count log (especially if you are a trustworthy looking type). More importantly it helps to keep a cycle life count on parts and helps you to know when certain parts are due for breakage so you can replace them BEFORE they break. Shoot a weapon long enough and keep good records and you will understand the life expectancy of firing pins, helical compression springs, torsion springs, hammers, sears, extractors, ejectors etc.
