Or you could just buy a purpose built multicaliber system at 1/3 the price. They even have an ambidextrous system that they hold the patent for. Even though it’s all short action calibers, they are working on making their systems shoot long action calibers as well. Everything retains zero and is repeatable when broken down and assembled with no MOA shift. Solid system that is definitely worth a look.

After 12 years in the military using Remington products, and personally owning several Accuracy International rifles…I’d love for the U.S. military to go with AI. It’s an ultra reliable weapon and every weapon I’ve had is an absolute shooter. They’re made to operate in all conditions which I cannot say about our R700 actions and triggers which fail often. Unfortunately, I believe it comes down to politics and lobbyist.

Guy, maybe you wear a Casio G-Shock. And it might cost $150, and keep better time than a Patek Phillipe watch that costs $50k.

Maybe you drink Cold Duck “champagne” (hardly). And maybe you like it more than Dom Perignon, despite the latter cost 20 times more than your bubbly.

The most ridiculous thing is that your government squanders TRILLIONS of dollars, and forces you and every tax payer to pony up. The private sector allows you to choose to spend your money or not. Don’t like the $17k AI PSR? Don’t buy it. Don’t like to pay thousands upon thousands of dollars in taxes every year of your life, so the government can give your money to somebody else (who hates you for being successful) and then take even more? Tough. Pay up. That’s ridiculous. It’s insane, and evil, too.

As far as I know all (former or current) PSR candidates are switch barrel rifles: FNH Ballista, Desert Tactical Arms SRS, Sako TRG M10, Barrett MRAD, Remington MSR and Blaser Tactical 2.

The M24 and the AI PSR are made for the US military.

It is very expensive to fulfill all requirements of a US military contract. A precision rifle is not going to be mass produced like an assault rifle. So the manufacturer is going to have to charge more for every weapon to able to recuperate the expenses.

Why does this matter for civilians?

The US military can renegotiate the price of a military contract if the same product is sold to someone else at a lower price point. So Remington and AI are not going to sell their precision rifles to civilians at a lower price than the price of the US military contract.

wow… for $17,200 you don’t even get the scope! I realize including a scope is not practical for many reasons, but even with the ability to switch between three calibers in the field that price is absurd.

I like how they list the other barrels and bolt bodies as “spares”.

It’s obviously overkill for most people but what other system lets you switch from .308 to .300 to .338 in the field?

If I was into tactical competitions and had the money I would rather have this than three equivalent custom rifles, to be honest.

I could build and scope 4 custom rifles for the cost of one of these. and at the end of the day this is just another factory rifle.
