This really needs an update ..

I do love my NF Competition, truth be told, the Sightron with its 60obj, and ample eye relief is a no brainer for the price.

The only thing NF scope have over Sightron are how positive the clicks are. IF weight isn’t an issue and Sightron could improve the feel of the turret they would be my first choice. If price is a no brainer.

Don’t confuse positive clicks with tracking the Sightrons tracking is superb. Im talking strictly about the tactile feel.

So everybody loves their Nightforce. I had a bad fall hunting coyote in ID and NF charged $650.00 to fix the 5.5x 22 NXS and has never been the same.I have had Sightrons go bad and sent them back and no charge ! not saying NF is a bad scope they are one of the best, but when you have to pay that much to have it fixed, come on! Sightron will be next on my list.

And let’s not forget a sunshade, included with every Nightforce Benchrest model. Want one for the Sightron? That will cost you an extra $50 the last time I checked. So include that in the cost difference.

I too have been tossing them around … Couple points though:

1. All NF scopes are Illumininated! Why this is never mentioned as a comparison point, I can’t figure … but red does resolve on a black target better than black.

2. Retail for the Nightforce 12-42X CH1/2/3 is $1359. High $$ reticles are $1428, and not even available from Sightron.

I currently have the low-$$ 36X BigSky, and would easily compare it to a 36X Weaver or Leupold.

Sightron service was GREAT on it though … I purchase it used, where a sellers “great” used scope, had a major score ring on the eyepiece glass from a booster. Sightron replaced the eyepiece absolutely free, and it most definitely wasn’t their fault.

I run a NF NSX 8-32 now, simply want more magnification.
Never heard of a NF going back because of cloudy glass or bad tracking so……….

The comment I make when shooters look at my Nightforces and March scopes remains the same – these are 20 yr plus investments because they are so good that I do not need to change. Better to spend the extra money now than try to change in 12 months time when the cheaper equipment isn’t meeting your expectations.

This is hardly a scientific sample, but I recently had a Sightron 10-60 which had all the clarity of a muddy swimming pool. Sent it back to Sightron complaining that at 50X it could not resolve bullet holes in the white @ 300 yards as well as a Weaver T36. Sightrons’ response – nothing wrong. Got rid of it, purchased a Nightforce 12-42 BR which is clearer, brighter and resolves better at 30X that the Sightron at any power. How economical is an object which cannot perform its intended functiom?

I have two of the Sightron 10 x 50 x 60 scopes, I have two of the sightron 8 x 32 x 50 scopes. I have 12 x 42 x 56 Nightforce Scopes and two 5.5 X 22 X 56 nightforce scopes. As far as toughness the Nightforce is the scope. As far as the clarity and tracking Sightron is the scope. I could not ask for more from the Sightrons as far as performance so far. Yes, the Sightron is considerably less expensive.

I don’t know Henry. I checked out the FS forum and I see just as many of the NF and Marchs as I do high end Sightrons.
