It makes holding the K&M Turner a lot more manageable and easier on the hand. I’ve got two.

K&M has a holder almost identical to this one. I bought it and never use it because even with the set screw tight, my neck thickness with ball mic varies a lot. Does the same problem arise with the Pendergraft tool?

Put a little head sink grease in there before putting in the neck turning tool, and it will conduct the heat to the holder better.

I kind of figured the set screw would be hidden anyways. I hadn’t really planned on using (reading) the indicator while running/spinning, but with the case stopped. Figured it’d save a step or two of taking the case off the mandrel, out of the holder, fiddling with the micrometer, etc.

That is the primary reason I sold the K&M, and bought the new Sinclair NT-4000. The K&M was too small for me now that I have arthritis in several fingers.

Monte, I just checked and the dial indicator will go in easily but the set screw that holds it in place is not accessible as it is on the rear face. It would be a small project to drill and tap a new hole for the set screw to retain the dial indicator from the front or side. Having said that, my experience with the indicator has been that it doesn’t really read as reliably as I would like, especially when the case is spinning. I just take my readings after each turn, with a micrometer.

I got one of these from Joe a while back, and love it! Almost makes neck turning enjoyable…

Do you know if there is enough clearance for the K&M dial indicator attachments? I’d been eye-balling one of those for a future project…
