I shoot the .300 WSM in 1,000 yd sling competition with the Berger 210 VLD and the Sierra 220. Remington 40X solid bottom action with a 30″ Krieger 1:9 bbl. bedded in a Sitman fiberglass prone stock. I started my long range shooting with a magnum, and I’m pretty recoil tolerant. It really hammers — I like it.

LOL I agree with you Guy. But I leave all the tinkering and experimenting up to the BR and F-Class guys. Then when they come across something good that I can use for silhouette I take a look at it.

Loving my 6.5x47L for laying over the steel. But even in Silhouette there are many that think it is an equipment game. But anyone familiar with it knows better. Sure good shooters who have a lot invested in time in their hobby spend money and get great stuff, why not it is their hobby! But it doesn’t make anyone a better offhand shooter lol.

Canada (DCRA) has a ballistic coefficient/velocity curve for ammunition to be used at Connaught. It limits shooters to a 7mm 180 gr. at 2900 fps combination. It was drawn up, I believe, for the 6.5x.284 shooting a 142 gr. bullet at 3000 fps. The Army approved it, and the DCRA is stuck with the limits. A shooter using a .300 WSM with 200+ gr. bullets will probably be over the curve and not allowed to compete under the current rules at the next F-Class World Championships.

Ita a equipment game. Every time a higher bc bullet comes out its time to re-barrel to go with the latest and greatest. Thats the problem with a equipment driven game.

I’m still seeing the high BC for weight 7mm bullet going at 2950 to 3050fps as the most viable alternative at this stage – recoil is manageable, reloading costs are reasonable and barrel life is good too.

When Berger gets back on track with their development of the 195 grain 7mm, I think we will see things rewritten again.

BTW, what did the winner at the F-Class Worlds use?

I think there will be a bunch of new 7mm wildcats being made from the new Norma 300 RUM brass. It will be easy to create something in between the 7mm WSM and the 7mm RUM, that can send the heavy 7mm bullets at a high enough velocity to beat a 300 WSM shooting the 230 gr. bullets, and it will still have with less recoil.
