Only scopes with consistent, repeatable adjustments are worth having. Pick a fully metric or fully MoA FFP model to avoid confusion (sums are easier in metric!), and calibrate your reticle and clicks so you know just what they represent in reality. Set your scope up square, fit an anti-cant device, and remember to look at it before shooting (!). Chrono your load(s) from your rifles. Use a good ballistics app (Applied Ballistics have a very good one), and a wind meter. Average the wind, and aim at the windward edge of the kill zone. All this will give you a very good chance of being on target with your first round. If you miss, use the reticle to measure the necessary adjustment and aim off to get the second round on target. You have more time before shooting the first round (so dial in), and less time before shooting the second (so aim off). Your experience/opinion may differ. This is just my recipe. Season's greetings!

Many scopes do not respond well to click values. Sometimes one or two clicks will not move the erector tube. But go another one or two clicks, and POI jumps. On a 1/4 min scope, at 500 yds, your impact might be an inch or so off, thus a miss. Hold over gives me more confidence.
