It was a rather large basil cell that required 5+ hours of Mohs surgery. From everything I’ve read, using a trained Mohs surgeon is your best bet. They do the surgery in such a way as to ensure they have a clear margin if healthy tissue around where the cancer is. The surgery is lengthy, but has a greater than 99% success rate. They ended up removing a piece of my cheek approximately the size of a quarter. The amount of tissue removed lead to a rather large scar and even required “alteration” of my ear lobe to avoid a deformed ear. We all need to ensure we wear sunscreen and reapply often. I’ve spent a large portion of my life shooting highpower, which requires long days on uncovered ranges.
