I have 1890 Winchesters with what appear to be new barrels on the inside but are obviously 100+ years old on the outside. Most of my half dozen 10/22’s with TacSol barrels have never been cleaned. The only time I’ve ever really been forced to clean a .22 barrel was after shooting that nasty Winchester lead free tin based ammo. To each his own.
