I used machine screws. No backlash at all. That’s why the head is so large. Built it around those screws.

Nice job Dave, looks lightweight too compared to other rests. I too am a DIY type of guy and if i may without any insult intended say that i would have used a modified solid threaded cone affair for the lock downs instead of wing nuts, maybe with some knurling on them. Good luck with the dasher!
