I refer interested readers to the 1997 Browning BOSS Patent No. 5698810 which apparently very few Muzzle Brake manufacturers have read. It was obvious to me having bought a 270 Win Browning Boss rifle over 15 years ago that the muzzle noise blast wasn't noticeably more than my other 270's yet the recoil characteristics were noticeably improved, as claimed by Browning. My reading of the Patent attributes this characteristic to the gas exit angle of 60 degrees approx. My guess is if you don't want to break eardrums and maybe be sued, find the optimum compromise between muzzle noise blast and recoil reduction which I figure is what Browning achieved. Read the Patent!
