Following up on the Steiner MM1050 binocular purchase I read on the Steiner site that they could be modified to provide a tripod attachment capability. I called their 800# and was told the service is free, just need to ship the unit to them. Regrettably they also noted that turnaround may be 2-4 weeks as the service is done in queue with their normal repairs processing. So the weight issue is going away fairly soon.

Thanks for the prodding on the binoculars. I finally got around to updating my probably 30 year old Palomar 8 x 30 with the new Steiner MM1050 (#210). B&H had the best total price...but they had to be backordered. They also bundled in a free pair of nice shooting glasses.

Editor: Good Choice. The 10x50 has much better low-light performance than the MM 8x30. On the other hand, it weighs twice as much as its little brother! But either way you will get a rugged set of optics for the price. Personally, I love the sport-focus feature, particularly for hunting use -- once you set the oculars to your eyes, from about 25 to infinity is in focus.
