I use a drop-in muzzle bore sighter for chrono alignment. Like a few others have passed along, I too got distracted one day between alignment and first firing, and blew up a barrel. When a horse throws me, I get back on. But to further prevent this, I attached a steel cable between the bore sighter and a simple plug to rest the bolt against.
Now, if after alignment, someone stops by my bench to chat and I'm delayed in firing,, when I position behind the gun and attempt to load a round, I can't. I'm reminded right then of what's still in progress.
