I have to agree gentleman. As a retired FMF Corpsman and combat vet and firearms instructor in a retail shooting range/storefront, I can appreciate both sides. Serving with my Marines for 22 years, we never had the high speed gear. Sure my Recon buddies had some, but most was fabricated out of need. (Magpul) As far as the "Tacticool", yes I totally agree. Everyone wants to look like an operator. When you talk to actual operators off duty, they as David said, are in jeans and sneakers. They are masters of the weapon they carry, and really would prefer it stay in their holster. As a Corpsman, I was trained to save lives and when needed, take them as well. I would rather spend my money talking about those I couldn't save. No one wants to take a life on general principle; at least no one in their right mind. We accepted the inevitability that it might be needed. Great article David.

What we've witnessed is the natural evolution of keyboard warriors turned gunslingers. It's all too easy to read and preach the opinions seen online, buy the gear advertised everywhere, and then strut around the local shooting spots like a peacock.

Now, can we also say "enough is enough" with the idiotic zombie (and the ectoplasm green) craze? Pretty please?

Guys, guys, guys. You are missing the point of all this. Companies need to sell goods to customers. In order to have a market they need to actively reinforce the aspirational nature of this equipment over the more hum-drum. Who would you rather identify with? A hairy assed Special Forces Operator or so Johnny No Name in Walmart? This Tactical market taps into a complex mix of manliness, aspiration and escape but also includes a more than a little fear - fear of attack, fear of terrorism, fear of the unknown...

As a Veteran and 35 year competitive smallbore/highpower shooter I say Amen to this gentleman. I don't like it when someone shows up at the range with their "tactical vest" loaded with magazines and a pistol. First of all many of these folks know little to nothing about their firearm/and how to use it and secondly what "threat" exists that they feel the need to be armed at all times? If these folks want to play war then join the Military or their local or state police organizations. As noted on the video the last thing someone wants to have to do is to use their firearm in self defense.

Responsible firearms ownership and use is not about how many pistol/rifle rounds you can fire on a target in XX seconds. I recommend these folks join the NRA and learn about rifle/pistol marksmanship the right way.
