If it closed at all on a no-go gauge, you have excessive headspace. Turning the gauge shouldn't have made any difference, and I can't see how it would make a difference unless maybe the chamber wasn't perfectly clean. The other thing is, you don't want to use 'any' force at all when trying to close the action. If you used any force at all, the headspace might be good, but near max.

Have a ruger no 1 in 6.5 x 55. Used foster no go gauge and will close on it if turned certain way in receiver. Turn it a little and want quite close. Any ideas. When shot with factory ammo all is ok. The only thing I noticed was I had one factory round of Winchester 140 gr with a ever so slightly primer setback. Only fired rifle maybe 30 rounds using Norma rem, pic and Winchester ammo. No handloads. Thinking about having custom barrel installed.
