I tried some of Norma Whitetail this weekend in my Savage Axis II .
I just had to sight by gun back in after sending my Athlon Argos BTR Gen II out for warranty work. After sight in I shot a 3 shot group measuring .340″. Very good ammo. My gun also lover the Federal Non Typical 140 Deer ammo.

Good review. My situation was, I got back into deer hunting, I wanted something with distance that would allow me to stay down in the scope. The creedmoor gave me that with accuracy and distance. Soft on the old bad shoulder. No one is saying it is the best rifle ever. I’ve killed deer with a lot of different rounds. But, it’s accuracy and easy (recoil) can’t be denied. Throw in the distance, and well, you can see why some are crazy about it. Your feelings and loyalty to your favorite round may stop you from admitting it. Lol.

I think that the shooting world is looking for a new “.308″ a round that can do it all kicking it up a notch from offerings of the past with light recoil. The 6.5 CM is filling that void, the industry, the gum makers are producing them. Just look at The Ruger precision rifle. Available in .308 and 6.5 CM and how many other rifle makers are doing that? So there you have it, like it or not. The 6.5 CM is being groomed to be the new .308 My prediction is that the military will adopt it and use it in their M-16’s all they have to do is change the upper.

Ed: I think we are getting caught up in trying to define who we are not what we are with respect to the Creedmoor. As posted elsewhere, there are existing cases that can do as well, if not better than the new kid on the block.

So unless there is a US DoD contract in the wings, I fear the wunderkind will flame out fast and go the way of the 6.8 SPC.

I think the readership figures reflect a “oh no – not again” response from the audience.

As to the Editor’s comments and in comparison to the 6.5×47, which I have a rifle in, the attention it gets and its commercial success is primarily due to marketing (Hornady vs. Lapua), its unavailability in factory sporting firearms (are there any?) and ammunition availability (basically Lapua only). Plus a few other factors, such as its perceived role (target shooting), perceived performance (really, there’s very little in it between it and the Creedmoor) and possibly the odd bugbear, not designed in the USA!

Since re-chambering all my rifles to 6.5 Creedmoor, I have regrown a full head of hair and become more attractive to women.

Editor: Good post. The 6.5 Creedmoor certainly gets a disproportionate share of attention when there are other very good midsized cartridges, e.g. 6XC, 6.5×47 Lapua, and yes, the Dasher (now with Norma factory brass). But we can say this… our articles on the 6.5 Creedmoor consistently generate high viewing rates — so the audience does seem to be very interested in this cartridge.
