Already in the late 1960s, the DCM developed a procedure of welding the selectors on M14s so that they could only be fired semi-auto. A process where they could not be reconverted to select fire. It was BATF approved. So the US government HAS NO EXCUSE not to sell surplus M14 rifles to the tax payers who paid for them. Similarly, what about the 1911s?! The M9s? What about the OTHER Garands in OTHER COUNTRIES, M1 Carbines and M1903 Springfields?! What about M16A1 and M16A2 and M16A4 upper receivers?! These small arms are the property of the American people who bought them for the U.S. military: the U.S. military has an obligation to return the money spent on these arms to the taxpayers if it can!!! It has an obligation to support Second Amendment Rights! It has an obligation to OBEY citizen sovereignty. So does the stooge sitting on his ass in the White House talking gun rights and doing nothing to insure them! ELECTIONS MATTER!!! The man speaking out about m14s HAD A POINT. The CMP is responsible for promoting civilian marksmanship and responsible gun ownership as a support to the Second Amendment. It should be pushing the federal government, the clowns in Congress who don't believe they are the employees of the people, to GET OUT OF THE UN ARMS TREATY (WHICH WAS NEVER RATIFIED BY THE U.S!) and working to import not only surplus U.S. lendlease arms, but older, even foreign, military bolt action and self-loading rifles into the country. There is a market for surplus, obsolete, small arms. The CMP can actually make profit and broaden its support of civilian marksmanship through responsibly selling small arms and ammunition. Gun Control is unAmerican. It is a movement aimed at denying Americans civil rights. Gun Control kills. It is against the interests of the CMP and American citizens to collaborate with gun control policies. It is about time we all take a stand for citizen sovereignty and enforcement of Second Amendment rights. The Second Amendment exists as the guarantor of Constitutional liberty.

@ Nate : Just another Nam vet who loved his M14 and XM21 . And hated that POS B.B gun it got replaced with . Or does that opinion not have any validity with you , either ?

Think it's great the Garand's are being brought back . Just took half a lifetime , and those who would have appreciated them the most , and enjoyed shooting them the most are in their nineties , or dead . Sometimes people need to "THINK" past the actual comment .

So ; Is it going to take another thirty years for the Govt. , Army , & the CMP to do the same with the several hundred thousand plus M-14's rusting and rotting in warehouses in Korea ?
Seems to me ; like the whole thing is based on "profitability" for someone .
And the guys who used those 14's will never get the chance to pull the trigger on one again . Unless they fork up the big bucks to Springfield for a M1A1 at the commercially inflated prices .Just sayin.....
