Hi,
I’m a novice at ELD Shooting. I’m a 30 year retired law enforcement officer having retired from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Dept. at the rank of lieutenant.
I am currently the LT for the SSLEA. My primary courses of instruction are Multi Assault Counter Terrorism Action Capabilities (MACTAC) and Active Assailant. I was fortunate to have been selected to study the terrorist attacks in Mumbai India. Long story short I was the primary of (3) authors of MACTAC which has become the national standard of how police officers will respond to a terrorist attack.
I’m also a Master Instructor on Active Assailant response protocols.
I’ve always been interested and intrigued at the abilities of snipers to neutralize targets at distances greater than 500 yards.
I just purchased a Ruger Precision.338 Sniper Rifle with a Vortex 20X50 scope. I’m quickly becoming a student of You Tube ELD videos and realize I have a lot to study and learn.
It’s been awhile since I’ve been excited about anything again. After 30 years of serving high risk search warrants and CQB.
So, my question is whether or not there are any ELD Shooting teams located in Las Vegas.
Respectfully,
Steven Menger, Lt. Retired

Thanks for running this article. ELR shooting is getting more mainstream, and the more awareness of this activity we can promote, the more participation we'll have and that will help move ELR out of being a 'fringe' activity and more of a legitimate undertaking. What was impossible just a few years ago is becoming more common, and there are many rifle shooters who enjoy pushing the limits of distance. When you think of 1500 yards as 'the close target', you're truly entering the ELR mindset! Personally I love ELR shooting for many reasons; one is that it truly requires an understanding of ballistics, and the science of accuracy. The Applied Ballistics team uses squeezes every drop of information out of our practices and competitions to elevate our performance, and also to feedback improvements in our ballistic tools and data that we make available to the shooting world thru many devices such as apps, Kestrels, rangefinders, and other imbeded devices. You can consider the Applied Ballistics ELR team to be a research division of AB. Check out ELR Central if you're interested, and join the discussion on the FB page.

Some additional info:

(1) By consensus of the parties involved in the ELR meetings held at SHOT this year, and notwithstanding the names and descriptions of certain “ELR” web sub-forums, “ELR” has been defined as “beyond 1500 yards”.
(2) ELR Central-recognized “ELR” events require (yes, require) that more than one-half of targets must be beyond 1500 yards. Where all criteria are not met an event may be promoted as having “ELR components”.
(3) “ELR Central has published a set of guidelines and standards by which official world records can be established.” See http://elrc.appliedballisticsllc.com/criteria-for-elr-central-world-record/
(4) While MGM may be the supplier for the Applied Ballistics-supplied targets, the target requirement is simply that it be steel and have a maximum size of 36” x 36”, square.

The Ivey ring/base combo is available in both mil and MOA versions – you need to call about the MOA version as they are not currently shown on their website (http://iveyshooting.com/index.php?id_category=12&controller=category). Other popular adjustable-elevation scope bases and base/ring combos are the ERA-TAC ”adjustable Incline” (MOA only - http://era-tac.de/index.php/en/products/one-piece-mounts/adjustable-inclination-mounts) and the Heritage Arms “Cold Shot” (mil and MOA versions - https://heritage-arms.com/index.php/shop-shopping-store/gun-parts/cold-shot-llc-mob-adjustable-scope-bases).
