50-55 grain bullets do just fine in 1-8″ barrels.
There’s not a really good reason for Savage to put 1-9 barrels on those rifles. My Savage LRPV has a 1-7″. It does more than fine with light short bullets.

I’ve never shot a 50 or 55gr out of a 1 in 8, but I can’t imagine they would like it much. 1 in 9 should still stabilize the 80gr, right?
