My High School shooting team went to visit him at West Point, and he taught us as much as possible in an afternoon.

The part that stuck, because it was a new concept to me, was that you need to take breaks when you are training. The breaks allow you to forget your mistakes. So if 90% of what you do is correct, but 10% is randomly wrong and causing poor performance, then take a break in order to forget that 10%. Something like that: this was almost forty years ago.

I met “Wiggs” at the Division Sniper School about forty-six years ago.

We crossed paths again over the years, last time at the (then) Coors Scheutzen Nationals in Raton. He conned my wife into spotting/reading mirage for him one afternoon.

At a banquet several years back, Anschutz presented him with a rifle and dubbed him “The Lion of America”.

We are greatly diminished…

I’ve mentioned before, I met Lones at the NRA show in Houston. He was very gracious and a pleasure to talk to. We shared the same conservative politics.
He was a great man.
