… not suggesting these don’t work, but wondering why it is that the scope can see past objects more opaque than mirage, occupying the same area relative to the scope. We set the parallax very far away from the end of the scope. Similarly, unless the shield is extremely wide, it seems hot air is still going to rise from the edges. Most shields are about as wide as the scope’s bell, but I would think they draw in light from a cone wider than a practical sized shied.

Black elastic waist band, Velcro adjustable bands and lamp chain. Just about standard issue on Palma guns.

They actually work if they are installed correctly. You want the sides of the shield curled up. Not down.

In Australia we have terrible mirage from October till early May, due to the heat.
We have become skilled at judging the Centre of the target and still rack up good scores on the hottest days. It really takes experience and practice till you get the key.
