I remembered this story and so searched on Google til I located it. I’m amazed and awed each time I read it… at 77 I’m at best, a fair marksman… therefore can really appreciate his accomplishment.

The ammunition he was using was called”tin can” ammo, NOT “tin plate”! I have a clip of five rounds of this ammo given to me by and old timer who competed at Perry. I myself have been there many times, beginning in 1952 or 1953 In 1960 I won the civilion Match Rifle Championship

I am a 70 year old Aussie target shooter and read this story today for the first time. It warmed my heart while I read it, but at the same time it has put a nagging question into my mind as to what was the main reason for the result. Was it his skill, his wind reading, the barrel, the ammo or just a near perfect combination of all. One thing for sure luck had nothing to do with it, and whats more he did it with the bare essentials.
