I would pick the 284 Winchester, as others have picked, running 100 grains to 180 grains for all types of shooting and if limited to one gun, it would be one of those less than 5 pounds, super accurate NULA beauties built by Melvin Forbes. Fantastic hunting combo for carrying a lot and shooting a little and needing one long range bullet delivered to the kill zone.

I would have to go with the venerable .308 , based on availability of ammo , and reloading items , brass , bullets , primers and multiple powders almost anywhere in the world . The 06 would be my second choice .

Currently, it would be my 1905 Gundermann O/U in 9,3×72 over 16 gauge.

All time: a winchester M21 SxS custom built, L barrel 12 gauge 3″ mag, R 9,3x 74.

If I could get back to Africa one more time, I could hunt everything including the Big Five without any qualms.

For us that reloads,I would pick the win. 284. The 100 grain bullets for varmints,180,s for all large game,150,s for deer size game.Good barrel life to 2500 rounds.Very accurate to a 1000 yards.
