I decided to try and start making my own ammo as a hobby, spent $1000 in equipment, then found out powder and primers are impossible to get these days. Without expensive factory grade equipment and special licence, I can’t make primers and propellent. Same with bullets and cases, millions of dollars in tooling is required to make cartridges from scratch. This shortage is temporary, by the time a new entrepreneur like me tools up a factory to make ammo, the demand will have returned to normal, and no profits for me because by then ammo will be plentiful and cheap again. It would be like opening up a toilet paper factory, spend millions, then have no more shortage and no returns on the investment. Capitalism gone wild, its as American as the bullets here.

This is panic buying — the ammo companies all hired extra staff and bought extra production capacity during the Obama administration, then ended up laying folks off in ’17 when the panic buying stopped. I loaded up on ammo in ’18 and ’19 when it was cheap, and stopped buying. Buy it cheap, stack it deep, and these kinds of panic buys won’t happen. This is like toilet paper last year — everyone buys all they can get because they’re worried it will all be gone next time they need to buy it.

So this is the first time in the history of the US where we have companies allegedly making product, knowing they can sell as much as they can make no matter how much, yet are, for some reason, deciding all that huge potential of profits and growth is not worth it to invest in doubling or tripling the company size? Something smells funny despite the claims. NEVER has demand of THIS HUGE an amount been able to kill off the American ability to profit/produce/grow. Why are there no NEW manufacturers and investors seeing this wonderful money making opportunity and opening up their own ammo factories? Even if the companies bought millions of dollars of machinery to expand, they would make profit off of it – yet they do not. I think the swamp has infiltrated.

Thanks for the explanation & for buying the Remington ammunition business. They make fine ammo as Federal does also. We have some 209 primers saved up since Bill Clinton was in office & we like to shoot skeet in the warmer months. I know at that time there was panic buying of primers of all kinds because there was a rumor that a 1 1/2 year shelf life was going to be put on all primers. I know that you people are working as hard & quickly as possible. I’m glad our ammunition is being made in the U.S.A,
