Just to let you know, Smith and Wesson is honoring all T/C warranties. I had an issue with my G2 Contender not cocking (right before gun deer season, wouldn't you know) and their customer service center gave me some things to try before sending it in. They want the whole gun, less the scope. Oh, boy.
I agree that T/C would have been profitable for them but concealed carry is the big focus right now for many gunmakers. Nothing wrong with that but I love my single-shot rifles and pistols, and echo Gerry James and his thoughts above on the single-shot mentality. If I miss, I go home empty-handed without needing 29 follow-up shots! And that's OK. I'm also a muzzleloader fan and have many T/C blackpowder guns in my collection. Everything they made was first-class and made in USA!
RIP, T/C! Maybe Ruger will buy them, too!

So….a dedicated single shot rifle, by definition, has always implied a higher degree of ethics and (hopefully) marksmanship. Could this be another nail in the coffin of the American marksman? Yes, there are many fine marksmen who use a bolt gun or an MSR, but the single shot has always been iconic. Just as a house of worship has some icon of its faith, so we of the firearm passion have ours. Among many, such as the lever action rifle that “tamed the West” , or the military rifles by which we suppressed various cultural cancers, the single shot, in its various iterations, has thrilled multiple generations of enthusiasts. Now we have the almost mysterious demise (?) of an absolutely iconic brand. Was it the venture into bolt guns? Or the attempt to produce just another freakish long range gun only loved by our version of body modifiers? Or the utterly silly attempt to overcome other icons like the 10/22 with a semiauto rimfire? I know not. Just know this: The first gun I reloaded for was a Contender Hunter model in 7-30 Waters. I taught my daughter to shoot and hunt with a TC Contender Carbine in that same caliber.

Well it looks like s&w left a lot of us high and dry. For the life of me I can’t see how keeping the Thompson brand going wouldn’t be profitable? I own too many guns. That’s probably true. I buy new ones all the time. I have several pro hunter barrels. The faithful customers of t/c got the shaft here. Smith and Wesson will NEVER get any of my business again. As a matter of fact - every chance I get I’m gonna get on my “soap-box” and spread the word about how shitty s&w is and how little they care about their customers.

Smith and Wesson stated that they won’t warranty TC 22 Classic unless I provide original receipt. I bought the rifle new at least 10 years ago and don’t have it anymore. They told me I was SOL. Thanks Smith and Wesson. You lost another customer.

Smith and Wession left people out in the cold. You can't hardly find any repacement part. Never will I have anything to do with Smith and Wesson.

Smith and Wesson warranty was horrible. I'm glad they won't be making Thompson Center products anymore. I love the Encore and Contender platforms. I just hope a more responsible company will take over the production line
