Spine shots will, of course, leave a "blemish" or two.

Not being a habitual, annual deer harvester, I always chicken out and opt for getting as close as I can and going for the boiler room (heart, lungs liver): an offal waste, if you will.

So, who is going to police the wearing of these roundels by the wildlife?

The hat-racks and swine in these parts aren't keen on "self-identification".

But seriously: a handy reminder that "centre of mass" has limited application, especially if you are trying to fill the freezer with edible goodies. A "Texas Heart Shot" will contaminate a LOT of good BBQ / roasting material. Good chest placement with the right bullet out of as sufficient cartridge will mangle heart, lungs and possibly liver, depending on the angle of entry. Good for protein recovery.

If you have total immunity to "buck-fever" neck / spine shots are seriously effective, and you can recover a lot of edible goodies, a hat-rack AND a throw-rug that has no "undocumented features".
