As a single pass, after shooting for awhile, the bore snake is good to remove some build up of fouling, so you can keep shooting and maintain a good degree of accuracy.
But beyond that nothing beats a good cleaning with rod, brush and patches.

Editor: We would add that we have had very good luck with WipeOut bore foam, particularly when applied immediately after shooting.

The bore snake is better than nothing and I would not hesitate to use one if out in the field after firing many shots.
For proper cleaning it will always be the rod, the cloths, and the cleaner. It gives a feeling of doing it right.

I found that boresnakes don’t always fit the bore as tightly as patches that I would cut to run. Sometimes the next larger size bore snake works very well, despite the sized obtrusive plastic slug that attempts to prevent such usage.
