A constant thought was that it should be a 17 HM2, but the round’s popularity has waxed and waned over the years. I am hoping to build a reverse taper barreled (19″) rifle and to put it into a full length stock that hides the reverse taper. Perhaps it is time to bite the bullet and get it built. Thank you for providing the inspiration!

17 HM2, CCI VNT, 17 gr., 2010 MV, 152 ME, $0.16/rd

22 LR, CCI Stinger, 32 gr., 1640 MV, 191 ME, $0.13/rd

The 22 LR exemplar produces 25.6% more ME for 18.7 less cost/rd than the 17 HM2.

Cherry-pick your data, like Hornady did, and you get a totally different result. BTW, Hornady does not offer 22 LR.
