At Camp Perry in 1987 I was invited to dinner by my soon-to-be father-in-law, Don L. Smith. He was having dinner with David and his father, G. David Tubb. That was where I first met David. Many years later David and I found ourselves as shooting partners as members of Team Creedmoor. For five years he and I stood side-by-side shooting standing together at the National Championships. It was always great fun, and we never lost a match during those 5 years. Our families became friends and David and Sue even came out to California and stayed at our house. I was able to speak with his family the day before he passed away. To say that I lost a friend and the shooting community lost a legend is an understatement. May God greet you in heaven my friend.

David led the pack and was a terrific mentor. He set a good example of all of us riflemen and I know George is very proud of him.
Fair winds and following seas brother. Will meet you in Valhalla one day.

I knew David for a lot of years. I watched him win a number High Power Silhouette over the years. We have mutual friends and I know David's history. I have talked to him about problems numerous times. He was always very receptive with my inquires. I never achieved the kind of shooting ability as David, I was never on his level. I will miss him because this is an old man that is lamenting about another friend he won't be able to talk to along with all the others that have traveled to the other side in Gods grace. Hope this finds all the rest of his family and friends in feeling the same missing him dearly.

We are diminished. David's passing is not just a loss to the family but to the whole shooting fraternity. I've know the Tubb family for over 40 years starting with George then David. Both admirable Texas gentlemen that are rare today. Having competed with David for over 30 years he presented a persona for what a great sportsman is and how to react in both good and bad situations. I really miss the golden hay days of shooting, I fear we will never have those same opportunities again. David when you get to that range up on high I hope your Tubb 2000 and 6 XC work perfectly as they did at Perry. Hopefully we will both be on the same range and shooting with each other again, my memories are eternal as is our loss. Happy trails , Mitchell
