Brandon Green, a multi-time long-range and service rifle national champion, recently won the Open Heavy division at the 2026 Best of the West Hunter match. Held March 6–8, 2026 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, the Best of the West Hunter competition had 20 simulated hunting stages with targets ranging from 200 yards to over 900 yards, with average target distance around 400 yards. The range was within a large horseshoe bend of Buck creek, giving a 360∘ course of fire over terrain with rolling, rocky bluffs, tall-grass hills, wooded draws, open valleys, and creek bottoms. On the range competitors engaged life‑size AR500 steel animal targets including wolf, bighorn sheep, moose, bear, whitetail deer, hog, coyote, mountain lion, bobcat, turkey, elk, antelope, mule deer, otter, raccoon, rock chuck, squirrel, lynx, prairie dog, and jackrabbit. Round count was 80-160, depending on a first round impact or second round impact.

Green, who has already secured three NRL Hunter match wins this season, credited both the match design and his equipment for the successful outing: “I find the NRL game has its unique challenges along with really fun courses of fire. Having confidence in your equipment and ammunition gives you the ability to focus on the task at hand and that’s the key to having a strong performance. My .260 Remington AI platform loaded with Berger 144 grain Long Range Hybrid Target bullets, Lapua cases, powered with Vihtavuori N160 has been one of the most consistent combinations I’ve ever seen. I’m very thankful these helped secure the Best of the West Hunter Championship.”

Video Reviews Selected by Brandon Green
For this week’s Saturday Showcase, we present seven videos featuring modern Electronic Target Systems. These videos were selected by Brandon Green, one of America’s greatest marksmen. Recent winner of the legendary King’s Prize in the UK, Brandon is a three-time National High Power Champion, and a National Long-Range Champion. Brandon has chosen these videos to illustrate how electronic target systems work, and so viewers can optimize their performance when working with e-Targets, both for live fire and dry-fire training. The first four videos cover electronic live-fire systems for rifles. The second three videos cover dry-fire systems for pistols that can be used indoors.

Electronic Targets for Rifles

Shotmarker Target Unboxing, Overview and Set-Up

The convenience of electronic targets offers the competitive marksman or enthusiast the ability to train and gather data without having to enlist help. These systems allow the shooter to set up a target at any distance where the projectile is supersonic and collect vital data. This system allows you to see impacts on target, get retained velocities, and measure group sizes with remarkable accuracy provided the target frame is square, rigid, and calibrated properly. This 14-minute Ultimate Reloader video will cover the unboxing of the system as well as discussing the capabilities, setup, and calibration for proper use. This ShotMarker unit retails at $799.00 USD. LINK: ShotMarker Product Page.

Long Shot LR-3 Long Range Target Camera

With the versatility of shooting steel or paper targets at distance, the camera style target systems can bring undeniable convenience to your range sessions. These systems can give you both the visual indication of shot placement on target and group sizes right on your phone or tablet.

This video covers unboxing, compatibility, and functionality of the Long Shot LR-3 target camera system with a live fire demo that shows image quality and speed. This impressive system can work out to 2 miles and syncs directly to your device. No range WiFi is required. This Longshot LR-3 Target Camera System is on sale for $899.99 USD.

If you typically shoot inside 1000 yards there are less expensive Long Shot devices. The Ranger+ 1K system is $404.00, The Marksman 300-yard UHD (ultra-high definition) is $449.00, and the Range 100-yard unit is just $224.00. LINK: LongShot Camera Options.

Caldwell Ballistic Precision LR Target Camera System

The Caldwell camera system appears to work similarly to the Long Shot system while coming in at a bit of a reduced cost. This video will cover unboxing, setup, and capabilities as well as a live fire demo that shows video quality and speed. This unit retails at $604.99 USD.

The CMP’s outdoor electronic targets at Camp Perry employ Kongsberg Target System (KTS) technology. The system includes monitors at each firing point that instantly display shot scores. The mobile version of the KTS system, which has been featured at CMP Travel Games events and the National Matches highpower series for many years, was used at the 2025 National Matches this summer. The advanced Kongsberg eTarget system at the National Matches will includes the KTS Shooter’s Journal, which keeps a log of each individual’s shots/scores on the firing line.
Brandon Green has established himself as one of the greatest marksmen on the planet with an historic victory at the Bisley Range in the United Kingdom last week. Brandon, U.S. Army veteran and past USAMU shooter, won the HM King’s Prize match, the first American in history to do so. Shooting Sports USA declared that: “Nothing comes close to the prestige of the King’s Prize at Bisley — and this year, it has a new champion: Brandon Green, the first American ever to win the event in its 156-year history.”

Brandon Green, a multi-time U.S. National Highpower and Long Range Champion, shows his form at Bisley.

Brandon won the King’s Prize on “V-Count”, the equivalent of “X-Count” in the USA. It was a remarkable come-from-behind victory. With 100 shooters in the final day of the King’s match, Brandon worked his way from 30th to First Place, finishing (as champion) with 299-41V. In second was Britain’s P.D. Sykes who finished with 299-37V. Sykes only dropped one point in this entire match and that was on his last and final shot! That one lost point at 1000 yards gave Brandon the win.

Shooting Sports USA explains: “It all came down to the final shot from Sykes, who had a chance to seal the win with a perfect score. But, after he fired a four just outside the five-ring, it meant the title would belong to Green.” READ Shooting Sports USA King’s Match Report.

Shooting Sports USA reports: “The format of the King’s Prize ensures no lead is safe: scores from the Second Stage carry over into the Final, while the First Stage is dropped. A dozen shooters entered the final round with a perfect 150, but high winds and mounting pressure began to thin the field almost immediately. Green methodically climbed the leaderboard — 13th by the halfway point at 900 yards, then fourth after a flawless 75-11V string. By 1000 yards, only one shooter, Britain’s P.D. Sykes, remained clean. The stage was set for a dramatic finish — and Green didn’t flinch. The final string of fire saw Green shoot another perfect 75-10V at 1,000 yards — something only two competitors in history had previously achieved in the King’s Final.”

We had a chance to talk to Brandon after his return to the USA. He told us that the match was really a transformation from disappointment to celebration. Days before in the Bisley Corporation match he finished in the bottom half, only scoring 39 out of 50 possible points. But he used that experience to learn about the range conditions, flag movement, and weather. He took that knowledge to the King’s Match, dropping only one point in three days, and shooting perfectly at 900 and 1000 yards on the Stickledown range on the final day. That performance secured his historic victory.

Brandon Green Rifle Components

Here are the key components of Brandon Green’s King’s Match-winning rifle:

Barrel: Krieger Barrels 32″, 1:12″-twist stainless barrel.
Trigger: Bix’N Andy 2-Stage Competition modified with custom spring links to comply with 1.5 kg (3.3-lb) Imperial Meeting Bisley rules.
Rear Sight: Mudcats Precision Machine Mechanical Sight, 1/8-MOA click Elevation, 1/4-MOA click Windage.
Stock: Foundation Stocks custom special single shot version based on Foundation Exodus stock. Brandon installed a 3-way adjustable buttstock, and modified the cheek-piece with an offset plate to move the cheek-piece forward.

Rifle Load and Ammunition

Brandon was shooting a .308 Win rifle with GGG 155gr .308 Win (7.62×51) ammo supplied by the match organizers. GGG, short for Giraitės Ginkluotės Gamykla, is the sole ammunition manufacturer in the Baltic states, and is the official ammo supplier to the NRA UK for the Bisley competitions. The bullets were believed to be Sierra 155-grain HPBT MatchKings. Brandon affirmed this was very good ammo — he opined that it is probably capable of 0.5 MOA accuracy at 100 yards. The powder used by GGG is not known, but some shooters observed it performed very much like Winchester StaBALL.

This competition was originally the “Queen’s Prize”, as it was first awarded in 1860 by Queen Victoria. Now that Charles III reigns over the United Kingdom, this championship is called the King’s Prize. The match was moved from Wimbledon Common to Bisley in 1890 and has drawn the best marksmen in the world ever since. The competition involves multiple days of .308 Win (Fullbore) target rifle shooting, a discipline demanding great “hard-holding” skills, an ultra-accurate rifle, and world-class wind-reading.

This is a match using .308 Win-chambered, iron-sighted rifles, shooting at multiple ranges out to 1000 yards. This year was challenging, with switchy wind conditions on the final day at the Bisley Stickeldown Range. Stickledown was “unforgiving” last week, but Brandon Green nailed an impressive 299-41V, dropping just one point overall to take the King’s Prize.

The internet was buzzing with praise for Brandon, and his fellow U.S. National Rifle Team members congratulated him. On his Facebook page, Brandon thanked his fans and team-mates: “Thanks guys, I really appreciate the kind words. I was talking to the 2015 world champion Ben Emms before we started and he said that all you have to do is keep yourself in it to the end and it will all sort itself out. That was the absolute best piece of advice that I could have gotten yesterday. Thanks again buddy!” In an interview on PrecisionRifleBlog.com, Brandon added: “Focus on shooting your match — don’t get wrapped up in what everyone else is freaking out about.”

NRA of the UK — 156th Imperial Meeting
This year’s 156th Imperial Meeting included a number of individual and team competitions. The individual events and overall match concluded with ceremonies for the King’s Prize winner, Brandon Green. After he was announced the King’s Prize winner, Brandon was carried from the range by chair, lifted by his competitors, accompanied by the marching band, Range Officers, fellow competitors and spectators.

Brandon’s superb performance made him the first American marksman to win the King’s Prize (and ride the chair) in the 156‑year history of the event. The NRA UK posted: “Precision, poise, and proof that hard work pays off. Congrats, Brandon!”

The individual 600-yard match was held for F-Open, F-TR, and Sling shooters. There was a good turn-out, particularly in the F-Open class. Shooting was impressive, with 11 F-Open competitors recording 600 points over the course of three 20-rd sessions — not dropping a single point all day. F-Open Ace Peter Johns was the top finisher, with 600-47X.

Modern F-TR rifle looking down-range at Ben Avery Shooting Facility.

Tracy Hogg took the F-TR division with 598-36X. In the sling division, which had both “A” (Any Sight/Any Rifle*) and “P” (Palma) classes, David Luckman topped the field with a stellar 600-48X score. Robert Gustin (in “A” class) had the next highest score, 600-46X. That’s mighty impressive for a older marksman who competes as a Grand Senior.

Sling Shooters in Palma Division
For the Palma division, the cartridge of choice is the .308 Winchester (7.62.x51). This versatile cartridge is still capable of extreme accuracy. Never underestimate a skilled sling shooter with a good Palma rifle. Below is multi-time NRA National Long-Range Champion John Whidden in action at Ben Avery a few seasons back. John’s rifle featured a centerfire action in an aluminum Anschutz small-bore stock.

SFC Brandon Green Fires 2023 First Shot at Camp Perry Matches
The First Shot Ceremony for the 2023 Camp Perry National Matches took place July 10, 2023. The star of the show was Sergeant First Class (SFC) Brandon Green of the USAMU, one of the greatest marksmen in American history. Brandon delivered a speech and kicked off the competition with the First Shot (see above), taken with a famed Winchester Model 70 used by Gary Anderson 51 years ago.

SFC Green is truly one of the greatest shooters on the planet. His record in major competitions is truly remarkable. Green has won three NRA National High Power Championships, and in winning the 2022 NRA Long Range Championship, Brandon became the first person in history to win all four individual matches in the series: the Wimbledon Cup, the Mustin Trophy, the Leech Cup, and the Remington Band of Brothers Trophy. Green, from Box Springs, Georgia, is the first shooter to accomplish this feat in the history of the National Trophies, spanning more than a century of championship rifle competition. In addition, Green has won the Interservice Long Range championships five times and the Interservice Individual Championship four times.

Green has had a stellar marksmanship career. First Shot Ceremony Emcee and CMP Programs Chief, Christie Sewell noted: “His historic 2018 shooting season finished with Brandon earning four individual national records, capturing his first President’s 100 Match win in dramatic fashion. He set a new national record – a perfect score of 400, with a 20 ‘X’ count. That year he also won his third National Trophy Individual championship and third Mountain Man Trophy, setting a new national record.”

Green Fires First Shot with Gary Anderson’s Famed Winchester Model 70

Green was given the opportunity to choose his gun for the ceremonial first shot, so he chose the bolt-action Winchester Model 70 that Director Emeritus of Civilian Marksmanship, Gary Anderson, used in 1972 to set the only perfect 200-yard standing slow-fire score at the National Matches. “To shoot it was absolutely a huge honor,” Green said. “I was shooting a piece of history.”

The gun’s story begins long before that historic shot. “This gun plays a special role in the history of marksmanship,” said Anderson. “It started as my dad’s rifle and was converted to a match rifle. In 2019, I used it to shoot the first shot, so it’s been here at the First Shot Ceremony a couple times.”

Brandon Green Joins Rimfire Match before First Shot Ceremony
Green, a 20-year member of the U.S. Army Marksmanship unit, arrived at Camp Perry a few days ahead of the rest of his USAMU teammates. SFC Green wanted a few days, he said, to collect his thoughts and prepare the First Shot Ceremony speech he would deliver to the hundreds of people attending the event. But he got sidetracked. As he walked across the Petrarca Range parking lot, he stopped to watch men and women compete in the Smallbore Prone Iron Sight Championship and to talk to CMP Smallbore Program Manager Brad Donoho.

“I told Brad it looked fun and said I’ll have to find a rifle,” Green said. “Brad said I’ve got a guy who has an extra rifle. I borrowed a gun and borrowed ammo and had a lot of fun.”

Members of Congress and CMP Chairman/CEO Attend First Shot Ceremony
The July 10 First Shot ceremony was attended by hundreds of marksmen, National Matches competitors, and dignitaries in the legislative, marksmanship, and military worlds. Guest speakers were Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (Ohio); Congressman Bob Latta (Ohio); Major General John C. Harris Jr.; and Gerald O’Keefe, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of the Civilian Marksmanship Program. O’Keefe talked about the impact the National Matches’ long history has made on marksmanship, and he said the CMP is committed to carrying that impact into the future.

SFC Brandon Green is a shooting superstar. Green won his third NRA National High Power Rifle Championship in 2018 at Camp Atterbury. He dominated the HP Championship cycle, finishing eight points and ten Xs ahead of his nearest competitor. Brandon also won High Power National Championships in 2015 and 2013. And in 2017 he set all-time Service Rifle Records at the CMP’s National Trophy Matches at Camp Perry. Just two weeks ago, he won the CMP 2400 Overall Aggregate at the 2021 CMP Eastern Games, (2379-97X), setting a new record 497-26X in the EIC Service Rifle match. When he’s “on his game”, SFC Green is very hard to beat. He has no weaknesses, excelling at all positions, both rapid-fire and slow-fire.

Wicked Fast and Smooth…
Brandon Shoots Bolt Gun, Rapid-Fire
In this remarkable video, Brandon shows why he is tough to beat in rapid-fire. Using a Tubb 2000 bolt-action target rifle, Green displays amazing speed working the bolt and then immediately recapturing a rock-steady hold. Our reaction when viewing this video was: “Wow… this guy is beyond good.” We think you’ll agree. Anyone who has shot prone with sling should appreciate the remarkable skills which make Brandon one of the USAMU’s top shooters. Watching this man in action is like watching Michael Jordan in his prime. You’re seeing one of the very best ever…

What does a three-time High Power National Champion choose for PRS comps? A set of twins. Twin rifles that is. SFC Brandon Green of the USAMU is one of America’s best marksmen. He’s excelled in Service Rifle and High Power disciplines, and now he’s getting very serious about the Precision Rifle Series (PRS). Brandon recently took delivery of “Twins” — two impressive rifles optimized for PRS competition. Green told us: “The Twins are ready for business! The silver one is a 6XC and the black one is a 6.5×47 Lapua”. Both rifles feature Impact Precision actions (with AICS-type mags), 24″ Proof stainless barrels, and Fat Bastard muzzle brakes. Rifle work was done by Stuteville Precision (Wade Stuteville) and Exodus Rifles (Joe Walls).

In the 6XC, Brandon runs Berger 105gr VLDs in Norma 6XC brass. For the 6.5×47 Lapua he shoots 140gr Berger Hybrids or 143gr Hornady ELD-Xs in Lapua brass. Both rifles have stainless steel Proof barrels, but the 6.5x47L has a matte black Cerakote finish.

Brandon loves his new Twins. He said he likes the “feel” of the guns with the Foundation stocks: “These rifles weigh around 17 pounds with optics. They feel very solid under recoil — without the ‘tuning fork’ vibration you can get with a metal-chassis gun. They feel like a good wood-stocked gun, but the material is stronger and more rigid than wood. I’ve heard that guys are having success with these Foundation stocks with the actions installed without pillars or conventional bedding.” Currently Brandon is running both guns without action-screw pillars. He did have one skim-bedded, but he doesn’t think that was really needed. “Both rifles hammer now”, Brandon tells us.

Green Runs Vortex Razor HD Gen II 4.5-27x56mm FFP scopes on both rifles:

High-Tech Micarta Stock Material
At first glance, those stocks may look like wood, but they are actually a special “Micarta” material that is strong, durable, and stable. Micarta, often used for knife handles, is a “a brand name for composites of fiberglass, carbon fiber, or other fabric in a thermosetting plastic.” The stock-maker, Foundation Stocks, says Micarta offers some distinct advantages over laminated wood or conventional fiberglass: “The solid block of material gives us a dense, homogenous material that is absent of any voids or air pockets commonly found in composite stocks. The high compression strength of the material allows us to build an action/DBM specific stock that requires no bedding or pillars. The material is very durable and stable in extreme environments. We use advanced CAD software to design and model our stocks, working in conjunction with action manufacturers and rifle builders to provide exact fitment.”

Here is a close-up of a Foundation Stock showing the distinctive Micarta texture:

Tactical Competition vs. NRA High Power Competition
Brandon says PRS competition is tough: “PRS can be pretty humbling, but it’s been a lot of fun and a great challenge. For a shooter (like me) with a Service Rifle/High Power background, the variations in stages combined with the time limits can be very challenging. And the unusual shooting positions put a new spin on things. PRS is definitely a different ball game, but I really enjoy it.”

The CMP Cup, a 3-day course of fire, includes four stages: 20 standing shots at 200 yards in 22 minutes; two series of sitting/kneeling 10 shots at 200 yards in 60 seconds; two series of 10 prone shots at 300 yards in 70 seconds; and then 20 prone shots at 600 yards in 22 minutes.

Cleland’s new Aggregate Record of 2389-133X beat out his own 2018 CMP Cup record of 2368-111X. What’s even more impressive, Cleland’s score tops the NRA Service Rifle Championship Record of 2386-128X, which the talented SGT Cleland himself set in 2018*.

SGT Cleland wasn’t the only USAMU hotshot at the Eastern CMP Games. Sgt. Jarrod McGaffic won the CMP Eastern Games’ EIC Match with a 491-21X. SFC Brandon Green won Silver at CMP Cup with a 3-day aggregate of 2385-118X. And SSG Amanda Elsenboss (below) finished as High Woman and 4th Overall in the CMP Eastern Games with a 2378-114X.

* The NRA lists a “Service” record of 2396-181 set in 2009 by SFC Sherri Gallagher. But that was with a Match Rifle. SGT Cleland now holds both the CMP Record and the NRA Record for this Course of Fire with an actual Service Rifle. The USAMU explains: “SFC Gallagher’s record was in a different class, or category: Match Rifle. But since she is military, it may have been labeled as a ‘service record’ and caused confusion. SGT Cleland’s records mentioned above were all in the Service Rifle class, or category. The 2389-133X is the new, 2019 CMP record for this course of fire. In 2018, at the same CMP course of fire, he set a record with his 2368-111X. So he broke his own CMP record this year. However, also in 2018, he set the NRA Rifle Championship record by shooting a 2386-128X. It’s the same course of fire but in an NRA match, so technically, a different “record” since CMP and NRA keep separate records.”
